My reflection about the Philippine Colonization

The Filipino critique of Spanish Colonialism. The Spanish rule in the Philippines lasted for nearly 300 years during which time held the native population to a caste system where they had different rights than the Spanish colonist. The Spanish colonizers brought with was supported heavily by Spain. The conversion of the native people to Catholicism did not meet much resistance, and appealed to most of the population which lacked an organized religion. The result was a colony that did not ask questions until the Ilustrado's traveled and studied in Europe, where they were exposed to liberal and nationalist ideals by learning of the French and American revolutions. The most famous of the Ilustrado's was  Jose Rizal. During the time of Rizal and after his death the Philippines underwent its revolution from Spain. The revolution was triggered by a number of events and people  most notably Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio. This brave men has a big contribution to our country. They were the one who fight for the freedom of the Philippines.
The diversity  and richness of Philippines Literature evolved side by side with the country history. This can best be appreciated in the context of the country's precolonial cultural traditions and the sociopolitical histories of its colonial and contemporary traditions. During that period,a new set of colonizers brought about new changes  in Philippine literature, New literary forms such as free verse, the modern short story and the critical essay were introduced. American influence was deeply extreme   with the firm establishment of English as a medium of instruction in all schools. While the early Filipinos poets grappled with the verities of the new language,Filipinos seemed to have taken easily to the modern short story. Paz Marquez Benitez  wrote the "DEAD STAR" and published in 1925.The first  successful short story in  English written by a Filipino. Then later on,Arturo Rotor, published "ZITA". Manuel Aguilar showed an exceptional skills with the short story. Then other  writer in provinces like Lope K. Santos and Patricio Mariano were writing minimal narratives and fictions story. This writers and the traditions was fused with American and European pop culture colonization.
Along the way,as I learned and study the colonization in our country. It opened and awakened my mind to have contact with great  wealth of knowledge, understanding, attitudes, appreciations of skills, abilities in appreciating literary work of our early writers. What  I have learned will help me in many areas and aspect in my teaching profession someday. In that way I can help and motivate young Filipinos the values to appreciate the good things that the colonizers brought and teaches  the early Filipinos. Although the colonization of our country had bad impression to our countrymen but still we owed them of some good things they had teaches to our countrymen. Maybe without them we will not study literature today. Because what we have now was the history they had brought  to us. I learned to became more acquainted w with the cultural heritage of our early Filipinos. I begun to understand some common values shared with other people of the world. I learned to eliminate the ugliness from my own surroundings and appreciate the world a place of beauty to live in.

  1. An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't.
